BCS was established in 2013 to assist the new arrival of Burmese refugees and immigrants in order to provide critical services and resources needed to help them thrive in their new home.
Mr. Sanyu currently serves as a member of WNY COVID-19 Vaccine HUB Advisory Committee, and is an ambassador to the New York State Vaccine Equal Task Force.
He is also a member of:
Erie County’s New Americans Advisory Committee
Buffalo State College’s Community Advisory Committee
Buffalo Region Refugee and Immigrant Roundtable’s Steering Committee
Partnership for Public Good’s Language Access Working Group.
Mr. Sanyu was born in Burma/Myanmar and has resided in Buffalo since 2000. Mr. Sanyu assists and educates refugees and immigrants with language issues, funeral assistance, and American cultural and legal systems.
He shares experiences to provide better services for the refugee and immigrant population, and gives cultural competency trainings and presentations to courts, colleges and universities, the Law Enforcement Training Academy, school and health care agencies including the IRS.
Mr has also assisted the Buffalo Police Department with development of the “Language ID card” for non-English speaking residents in Buffalo.
In 2022, Mr. Sanyu was selected by City & State’s Power of Diversity: Asian 100 - which identifies New York’s Asian American leaders who are achieving community and political breakthroughs in their communities.
